Chartres

JULY 4

This is the first site visited after leaving Paris.

'Cathedral de Chartres' in the village of Chartres.

Front entrance.

Rear entrance.

The pipe organ had a magnificant sound. It was very difficult to photograph as there was very little lighting and the organ is dark colored.

Very intricate stone work.

This doorway leads to a staircase leading to an open room.

Intricate wood worked door.

Travelling

JULY 4

Leaving our Paris apartment today. Picking up our rental car and heading on a driving adventure. First time driving France's country side. Will be visiting historic sites for the next 3 - 4 days while driving towards Lourdes. Looking forward to meeting family members and seeing mom. Will be writing if we have access to internet.

:-)

Cathedral St-Eustache

JULY 03

We all slept in as it was very humid and hot last night, felt good. Today is much less hot (28c). With yesterday's storm a colder front moved in overnight.

The 'Cathedral St-Eustache'. Only 5 minutes walk from our apartment.

Run for the hills a giant is following me. Turned into a restaurant and a customer noticed.

Arc de Triomphe

JULY 2

Another very hot and sunny day (35c) with a short thunder storm while huddling under the 'Arc'. We took the subway to first visit the 'Palais des Congres' (a luxury hotel with luxury boutiques) then walked over to the 'Arc de Triomphe' along the road 'Avenue de la Grande Armee'. We then walked as far as our feet allowed us along the road 'Avenue des Champs-Elysees' at which time we took the subway to the apartment.

The 'Arc de Triomphe'. Swarmed/surrounded by a multitude of automobiles. Busy, busy, busy.

Standing in the middle of traffic on the 'Avenue des Champs-Elysees' while taking this picture.

Dreammmmming of a yellow Lamborghini.

Reality sets in. Check out the tandem front wheels.

Notre-Dame / Conciergerie

JULY 01

Today is (34C) and sunny (no clouds). We are taking things slowly.

We were out in the morning and visited these places. All on foot as they are only 6 minutes away.

'Cathedral Notre-Dame.'

Then we visited the 'La Chappelle' inside the 'Cathedral Notre-Dame'.

There are some 20 of these stain glass windows. Approximately 50 feet high and 15 feet wide.

A peeking window.

We then visited the 'Conciergerie' (dongeon) next to the 'Seine' river. All the people the King did not like were given free room and board.
